We are told from a very early age that we need to buy stuff in order to make us happy. This happens through television, radio, magazines, billboards – it is all around us and difficult to escape. We are brainwashed into thinking that the more stuff we own, the better our lives will be.
That this so called ‘stuff” will give us absolutely everything that we need in life. Many of us buy into this to the point where we have convinced ourselves that this is true – we are all looking for meaning in our lives and we think that it is going to come from ‘stuff.’ Our houses become a storage space rather than a living space, causing anxiety, stress and an all over feeling of overwhelm. They are crammed to the brim with toys, books, clothes, appliances, stuff stuff stuff! Today I want to share with you 10 benefits of why owning less really is more and how you can live a happier, more fulfilling and purposeful life without all of that stuff……..
1: More time to do the things you want to do and that matter – time with friends, family, loved ones and yourself!
2: Less to tidy up each day, making tidying up a breeze……
3: Less stress – our possessions cause us to feel overwhelmed and anxious.
4: Better for the environment – where does all that stuff we buy eventually end up?
5: Easier to make decisions – choosing what to wear each day means we will be in control rather than out of control.
6: Less to maintain which gives you more time and energy.
7: Find items quickly and easily.
8: Improves relationships as you are not weighed down by your stuff – you feel lighter and brighter.
9: Saves you money – allowing you to spend your money on quality rather than quantity.
10: Mindfulness – you are conscious of what you are doing and why.
The benefits of owning less are endless – please feel free to add more in the comments below 🙂
